Honoring our Re:new Project Super Moms

Refugee women can feel not only overwhelmed by their own circumstances, but if they have children they carry an extra, heavy burden. Our Artisans are amazing SUPER MOMS and we are so encouraged by their strength and joy!

“When you are looking at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know.” —Charley Benetto

During the month of May, we wanted to take time to celebrate all of the mothers represented at Re:new. Although our Artisans, volunteers, and staff have a huge role to play in the day-to-day operations at Re:new, many of these women go home to their most important job: being a mom. Juggling working, studying for ESL classes, cooking, cleaning, teaching their children, and more - these women wear so many hats and we get to see first-hand how they do it all with grace.

When we asked one of our Artisans, Farida, about being a mom, she said "I love being a mom and nana to my grandkids. They make me happy!"

Refugee women can feel not only overwhelmed by their own circumstances, but if they have children they carry an extra, heavy burden. Walking with children through moving countries, learning a new language, finding housing and jobs and schools- we are amazed at how these women handle the emotional and physical stress of it all. And, when they walk in the doors at Re:new, they are full of smiles and joy! Or sometimes, when it’s been a hard day or hard week, we are there to also embrace them with a hug and words of encouragement. We are so encouraged by these women.

"I am inspired every day while at Re:new. The Artisans' dedication to work, their own personal growth, and to provide for their families is astounding to me,” says Kristi Zboncak, Executive Director at Re:new. “Above all of those things, the pride of being a mother shines through. Without complaint, they approach each day of work with joy, all while balancing getting their kids off to school and helping with homework, working other jobs, doing the cooking and shopping for the family, and so much more. These Artisans aren't just amazing seamstresses- they are super moms!"

We are grateful for all of our Re:new super moms! Having a front-row seat to see this pure love in action is the greatest joy!
